When setting targets, a manager has to take three factors into consideration:

- General objectives of the company set by the higher management and marketing

- Market development

- Available resources including sales employees' capabilities

Upon the last one, the Sales Manager will distribute the targets among his team. Of course  there should be some kind of flexibility in the personal targets. But employees tend to bargain on their targets for many reason such as to have more certainty that they will exceed the target or perhaps they afraid of the unknown.

The manager should therefor present the targets as a challenge and make it subject to evaluation during the sales period. He should also listen to his employees' feedback, but don't have to modify unless there is some logic in their feedback.

In general I would make a rule not to do that ... if there is a problem with getting the sales margin  ... your employee should contract his manager.

I may not  remember this right, I was under the impression, if they bargain over the allowed amount, they loose some of their profits. So in that case it is okay ... however they should not undersell the product ... not good for business, ... unless it is a cheaper brand which is not associated with the upscale brand name...

You can save £100s haggling in high street stores... By lawno store has to accept your cash, even if you're paying the ticketed ... counts is the bargain struck, so why not ask them to lower the price? After all. .... Sales staff have weekly, monthly or quarterly targets on the amount of .... Set a target price.

Yes bargaining is expected as the sales personnel are in direct touch with the customers. Discussion should be encouraged and targets maybe readjusted if the sales personnel can back up their arguments with convincing data.
