What is difference between LAN and WAN?

LAN (Local Area Network): This is a small network that is confined between small geographic barriers, it can be a room, a building, or possibly greater.
or a WAN (Wide Area Network): This is a giant network that can span several countries.
Internet is one example.

In a network topology if the media for connecting devices is owned by a Single Owner, its a LAN, else its a WAN. When the media owner is Single, it means you are accessing a share locally, so its a LAN and when the midia owners are more, it is said that the access is remote, so it is called a WAN. One more thing, If you access some share via public IP, its a WAN.

LAN and WAN  are just a type of private network. As internet is a public network.

Private network means we can use these networks for our private communications only.

LAN : Two or more computers or communicating devices in a room , on a floor , in a building or in a campus if are connected are said to be connected on LAN. Size pf LAN can be Size of campus.

WAN: Two or more computers or communicating devices which are geographically separated and are in different metro city if connected are said to be connected on WAN. Internet is largest WAN.

WAN is greater than the local network for hard-ware and software and enables you to connect to the outside world, a group of related domestic networks via the Internet

their is two boarders in real life network the private networks and commercial (ISP) comes from company you have contract with them , this company is responsible to make a connection with WAN ( Internet ) and the part after the modem is your responsiblity and this is your LAN so you can put your routers and swithes to make different connection between them

LAN- Connection Between2 or More Computer is called LAN (Local Area Network).
WAN - (Wide Area Network) is a computer network that covers a broad area.
