Catch talent early in the company.
Use generic filters but based on either values OR leadership competencies.
Check evidence of performance where talent has done well.
Calibration is a must.
Not necessarily that talent be a successor of any position in the company..

If I understand the quastion right my answer will be: I belive that talent managment is moving to be a reward tool to recognize top employees by investing in them by training, and to keep them at the top of there field of skills and knowledge.So the new trend is to reward your top employees by investing in them by training.
