Kaspersky is more consistent in test performed by AV-Test and AV-Comparatives. These two organization have thorough test methodology, recognised by industries.
But then again there is also requirement and needs. If you are a technical person, Comodo has the most features where you can tweak the HIPS etc with complete detail, if not tweaked properly its relatively weak for normal user. Fully tweaked Comodo might have the best in the wild prevention. People who use Avast! are most probably people who came from the free version, comfortable with the interface, settings then migrate to free version. With a decent test score by Avast theres nothing wrong with that in my book.
