Hi

For answering your question first, My opinion is that rapport and personal recommendation is more effective than advertisement, think about it and remember how KFC has become KFC.

However, Advertisement come as a crucial requirement when you try to sell your product rapidly in different areas and countries without waiting for it to be recommended by people to other people, also advertisement is crucial when you don't have the intention to produce a super outstanding quality product so you use ads to make the customer see what you exactly want him to see in your product, Think about it, how often you see Range Rover cars ads compared to Hyundai or Toyota?, however, all people knows that Range Rovers are Range Rovers.

With that being said, and because we live in this wide communicated world with different cultures and needs, Ads should be there under any case, but as an answer to your question, I would say rapport and personal recommendation are much effective.

Let me know how you think.

Thanks

Actually, both aspects, advertising and personal rapport and recommendation, are interlinked and contribute towards a satisfactory customer-provider relationship. Imagine a lousy product, with tonnes of advertising, bombing and no personal rapport and recommendation saving it! The customer's loyalty is with a product s/he uses for gratification and not because s/he likes the colour of your eyes and hair:)- It's a different story when the customer also happens to be on'es wife:)-

In order for a brand/company/product to gain market share, it has to be advertised along with positive word of mouth as these both go hand in hand. Personal rapport/recommendation (Positive word of mouth) is very important to gain loyal and lasting customers whereas one of the pros of advertisement (with solid copy/content/call to action) is that, if done correctly to the right target audience, can increase the brand awareness ten-folds also promoting the brand image. Now I must point out the marketing model of WhatsApp. It doesn't spend any money on advertising and mostly rely on recommendations (positive word of mouth). But for such strategy to work and sustain, it is imperative to have a perfect or close to perfect product. It's all about exploiting where the customer/consumer experience can be improved while building up on the product and the customer experience.

Yes,definatelly. That wholw qusetion depends on ''that advertisement realted to what and why '' .Advertisement is short time and easy job to made popular any thing.By that you can get attention of  peoples in seconds and spread you thoughts at as much distance as you want.

Well It totally goes hand in hand. You will not get any customer to build a rapport if you do not have an advertisement. And likewise if you have a good advertisement and you finally end up with a lot of customers and a poor sales guy who can't build a rapport with the customer, well that is also bad. So as i mentioned above, both goes hand in hand.

Totally depends on the scenario. Sometimes advertisement is effective when you have mass audience and sometimes personal recommendation needed to satisfy the customer.
