Today modern banks are very useful for the utilization of the resources of the country. The banks are mobilizing the savings of the people for the investment purposes. If there would be no banks then a great portion of a capital of the country would remain idle.
In the developed world every onehas a bank account. But in the developing world the situation is not the same. The Indian Government has correctly launched a drive to open bank accounts for all Indians especially in the the marginalised sector of the Indian Economy in order to provide banking services which include loans ( it is well known fact that the poor are not the big defaulters , they try their best to repay. )and help small farmers and traders come out of the grip of the village money lender.
In my opinion, it is easier to control who got what funds... taxes can be collected easier to collect ....
It has one good aspect... people are not robbed at their homes or getting their pensions when it is deposited in an account ... this been the original idea sold to people ... however it is all about control from a government over its subjects.
