Construction of building and other civil engineering structures on weak or soft soil is highly risky because such soil is susceptible to differential settlements, poor shear strength, and high compressibility. Various soil improvement techniques have been used to enhance the engineering properties of soil. Soil reinforcement by fiber material is considered an effective ground improvement method because of its cost effectiveness, easy adaptability, and reproducibility. Hence, in the present investigation, papyrus fiber has been chosen as the reinforcement material, and it was randomly included into the soil at four different percentages of fiber content, i.e.,5,10,15,25% by volume of raw soil. The main objective of this research is to focus on the strength behavior of soil reinforced with randomly included papyrus fiber. Direct shear, consolidation, and displacement tests were performed on papyrusreinforced specimens with various fiber contents. The results of these tests have clearly shown a significant improvement in the failure deviator stress and shear strength parameters (c and φ) of the studied soil with a percent addition of10% (the preferred percent). Moreover, this addition ratio reduced the displacement of the soil under loading. It can be concluded that papyrus fiber can be considered an appropriate soil reinforcement material.

Soil reinforcement is the act of improving soil strength to enable it support or carry more load. Two common examples are:1) Mixing a soil amendment such as lime into weak clayey soil and recompacting to improve soil bearing capacity (often done under the road base in highway construction)2) Installing plastic or composite webbing layers (called geogrid material) alternating with compacted soil to produce a stronger sloped soil structure (often done on steep roadway embankments to improve strength and stability)

Soil reinforcement you use with shallow foundations and plate foundations to get a stable ground to built on. Important is that you know that underneath there aren't layers that can give you a difference in vertical deflections. Usually used at foundations of one and two story buildings

Soil reinforcement  is a built environment protection is important because construction represents a major contribution to cli-mate change, resource depletion and pollution at a global level. Global strategy for more sustainable con-struction is a significant step towards a more successful, socially and environmental friendly atmospheremaking a strong contribution to the better quality of life signaled by sustainable development strategy.The brightest sustainable strategy in ground engineering is the consideration of substituting the use ofbiodegradable materials as substitute to the non-biodegradable (man-made materials) in a situationwhere there is requirement for short-term ground improvement. The most important properties of bio-degradable geotextiles such as vegetable fibres for soil reinforcement are their high initial tensilestrength. Widespread use of biodegradable fabrics in ground engineering has not happened due to thelimited service life of these fabrics and availability of chemical fibres, which are superior to vegetablefibres. The overall aim of this paper demonstrates the potential for the use of sustainable biodegradablevegetable fibres over man-made polymeric materials in ground improvement.
