Focus Groups: They are usually a small number of like minded people of different backgrounds or Experts in the fields (Same or similar) are bought together to discuss on a Product or Subject & are free to Interpret based on their understanding about the subject usually moderated by a 'Moderator'.

Focus groups are essentially about gaining insight to an issue rather then statistical reliability. So the most important criterion for selection is an individual's ability to contribute towards that insight, for example by being a regular user of a product.
