Conceptual Thought is what separates us from the animals. Conceptual thought requirre  consciousness. No other life-form on earth can think in terms beyond percepts. A percept is the impression of something that depends on recognition by the senses. The senses give us perceptions and the mind takes those perceptions and makes concepts OUT of them. Concepts are usually abstract ideas that are based on combining percepts together
