The functions of grout inside tendon ducts are >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

(i) Protect the tendon against corrosion.

(ii) Improve the ultimate capacity of tendon.

(iii) Provide a bond between the structural member and the tendon.

(iv) In case of failure, the anchorage is not subject to all strain energy.

Grout in prestressing works serves the following purposes:

1- Protect the tendon against corrosion. 2- Improve the ultimate capacity of tendon. 3- Provide a bond between the structural member and the tendon. 4- In case of failure, the anchorage is not subject to all strain energy.

1.to avoid the hogging

2.to avoid the lateral , longitudinal buckling

3.to prevent from corrosion, slip of tendon

4.for maintain the tension in tendon

5.to increase the friction force between tendons and ductsto maintain the tension fore ..

if friction fore reducedsome time tendon will go back original position which meansno fore in tendon it leads structural failure ..it will nottake load.. etc

I agree with answer Alex  and Mohamed.

The protection of the post-tensioning system is directly related to the overall durability and life span of the structure. The concrete that forms the structural member, the duct and the grout are all that separates the PT system from exposure to the air and weather.  The high strength steel of the PT system is highly susceptible to corrosion and must be protected from exposure to moist and salt laden air.  Additionally, the grout provides transfer of the prestressing force to the structural member in a bonded post-tensioning system. The bonding of the grout to the post-tensioning steel accomplishes this in a manner that is similar to the bond developed by rebar in concrete. Grout is the primary protection for the PT system; therefore, careful attention must be given to the grouting process. Cementitious grout provides an alkaline environment that passivates the surface of the steel which inhibits the corrosion process. The grout must surround and be bonded with the steel to be effective. Specially blended grout materials, correctly mixed and effectively pumped into the tendon, are keys to a successful grouting operation. The durability of the structure is directly affected by the quality of the grouting.

The function of grout is generaly to protect the tendon against corrosion to improve the durability of tendon, and it also used to provide the bond between steel and concrete structure,
