Details of a candidate can be verified during an interview by asking very specific questions about details on the CV, with regard to grades, qualifications, job responsibilities, salary details, etc.
Asking for names of existing or previous managers gives the candidate an idea that you are more likely to conduct a reference check.
Also ask a candidate for preferred references, i.e.
manager, peer, subordinate, etc.
Reference checks can be conducted over the phone or by sending an email with a customized reference check form.
