Iso dewaxing is the process in which long chain paraffins present in the lubricant are isomerised to form branched chains (isomers). These isomers have low pour point compared to paraffins. Iso dewaxing process is used for the production of Group II & group III lubricants where very low pour point is to be achieved ( -15 degree or lesser). Higher paraffin content is good for Viscosity index of lubricant, but pour point of paraffins is not good. Hence we have to isomerise the paraffins to achieve low pour point & for this purpose iso dewaxing process is used.
