Sometimes (or most of time) employees do what it is requested to do by the manager... Employees should follow the command of the manager... It happens sometimes that bad managers exist, but how did you know that manager is not doing his/her job? just because he/she asks you to do things? it is not a reason ! Try to be friendly to your manager so you can closely talk and discuss such issue if you really feel you are doing his job !
the role of work the empolyee should follow the instruction of their manager any every one should do his job but incase you are in high level and your are sure your manager did not do his job first action you have inform the owner and second if it is okay for thim you look for anther company because the from failer manager you will not improve in you career and in case you can do his job it mean you quaalified to become PD in other company .
it depend on your personality , you shouldnt do what is not in your contract , and if he make you do it by hard ways , then you suppose email the owner or the director about your claim , but dont do it unless im getting paid for it ,

As a subordinate we are not the authority to fix the job of our Manager. In well reputed establishments even though manager is also participate in routine activities, depending on the priorities he may abstain from the regular work in the interest of the organization, entrusting the task to the subordinates--or subordinates voluntarily perform the tasks in the absence of the manager.
Especially in Banks, often such kind of requirements occurs-I have seen nobody complain of such situations. On the other hand the rest of the staff do not allow to feel the customer/or affect the routine work to suffer as if the commands are implied.
