For any decision making process, especially at a directorial level, a fishbone AKA Ishikawa diagram should be implemented to evaluate the worst outcomes. As a manager myself, instead of making the obvious right decision, I would follow the fishbone diagram to evaluate the decision that would have the least amount of repercussions.

Speaking purely from my personal experience, the most easy and appealing decision could result in the exact opposite outcome the decision was intendedly made for.
