A loactually! Now, the visibility of the hotel is far wider thabefore, and thedon't have to spend much on traditional forms of advertising (Print and TV) Also, with the advent of online revenue management solutions, it has become easier for hotels to compare and benchmark their room rates against their competitors.

The greatest effect that online booking within the past10 years has had on the hotel industry has been to introduce real time dynamic pricing:  room prices fluctuate wildly, depending on demand and new prices are communicated instantly to the marketplace and can result in a surge of bookings, even on a last minute basis.   It could be argued that dynamic pricing allows some operators to increase pricing when they see competitors' inventory dry up or increase in price to cope with a surge in bookings.
