I beleive it is acheivable. Based on my personal expirience if I focus on it- I acheive.
first of all time managment skills are needed
to be fair sometimes it is personal problem-sometimes we find excuse that it is too much job, to stay more in job, but in reality we try to escape life problems, or its emptiness by staying in job extra hours.
once you make your life more interesting, better relationships, more hobbies, more sports, somehow we manage to find time for life and optimize job to finish it on time.
it is all about motivation and focus.
As a leader it is much easier to lead happy people than unhappy-so we must do our best to help employees to balance this two important poles.
Yes, balance is required even sometimes you push one over the second but for long run you cannot keep the "unbalance" because you feel like your life needs to be balanced as well as your work.
But I believe most people are still unbalancing such factors ;work & life and this depends on life style and economic and social situations
I would say everybody would say yes, but the priorities will be different and that's the main point.
Yes, those who can balance life and work are the main ones who can get ahead in their careers. They are the ones who make great leaders.
