The thing is that all IT persons "think" they know all about IT and they do not need the ITIL, but, after they start to look into what ITIL has to offer, they start to understand the value for business and the connections between different areas found under the ITIL, and this is exactly what companies are looking for today, the  knowledge about the connections between the different areas.

CCNA/CCNP --- network which if you can know will be good especially if you work in a big organization ITIL ---- process flow that is used in data center.
if you can have both it will be great There is a market and ITIL v3 certification has some value.
ITIL certification doesn't say that you can actually do anything.
It does provide an indicator to a potential employer that the individual with the certification has taken the time to validate a level of knowledge about ITIL and IT service management (ITSM).
All things being equal, you’ll have a better chance of getting the interview with the certification for those job postings that list ITIL knowledge or certification as part of what the employer wants.
You’ll still need to have the rest of the background and experience in the posting, but you might not be considered without the certification.
Most of the postings list the salary as, “competitive.”So, I called several companies with job posting to try to get some idea what salaries might be offered.
Where ITIL certification was listed as "nice to have" or a plus, the average likely offer for the successful senior level candidates was in the $100,000 range with an ITIL certificate and about $10,000 less without it.
For lower level positions, the salary was lower, but the difference was still about10 to12 percent.
You don't need to be an ITIL Expert unless your goal is to mentor a team or manage an ITIL adoption effort or even become an instructor.
If this is what you are after, then the ITIL Expert certification is worthwhile.
Otherwise, consider the Intermediate areas consistent with your experience or aspirations.
For example, if you have experience with an ITIL service desk, incident management, problem management, etc., consider either the Service Operation or Operational Support & Analysis certifications.
Similarly, with a background in change management and related areas, consider either the Service Transition or Release Control & Validation certificate.

ITIL will just compliment your technical expertise and will broaden your scope towards technology management rather than technology deployement.

ITIL can be studied in conjunction with any technical cert. So, there is no really a standard way that defines if you go for ITIL after CCNA or CCNP.

ITIL is all about combining business processes with IT processes and how they can interact with each other. Employers appreciate ITIL because they will be sure100% that you are not only understand IT in its technical terms but also understand the business part in IT.

In my opinion, ITIL is going to benefit you more than to a company because one day you will run your own IT business and you are equipped with an IT business knowledge, thanks to ITIL, as well as an IT technical knowledge, thanks to CCNA/CCNP.

ITIL will give you this feeling that technology is not only about certs and theory but it is about how to solve business problems and increase revenues using technology.

Hi, Ideally CCNA & CCNPcertifications should be enough for one to get a good job, however if ITIL cerfication is done would be an added advantage or weightage to C.V. But practically or professional not required for network professionals, It is required only for IT helpdesk people.

ITIL gives you idea how to deliver and support the IT infrastructure in an efficient manner. It provides a unified, mutually agreed platform where different levels of expertise and domains or stakeholders of the infrastructure share their work, knowledge and time.

So ITIL is definitely an added advantage.

Yes, It is highly recommended that the Technical Experts gain the knowledge of ITIL. Reasons being,

 1. Better understanding of the process

 2. Better understanding on the importance of JIT (just in time - delivery)

 3. Better understanding of roles and responsibilities

 4. Better understanding on the importance of QUALITY in delivery

 5. Building on the above, will help you to evolve as a successful IT Manager

you need ITIL to know the best practice for IT service management COZ you as an IT guy, you already a part of IT service so you have to know how to integrate with others and to understand the business objective of the service you support

ITIL is the standard bearer for how technology organizations move from being responsive (go fix this broken X) to being service based (value adding to organization.

It is like almost all employers in technology require english langauge skills, ITIL is a basic foundation level of interoperability (processes) that are used globally, so interfacing with service providers, vendors, etc that use ITIL is like the need to communicate with them in english.
