Software Reliability is not a function of time - although researchers have software will stay "as is" unless there are problems in hardware that changes. It can not be seen or touched, but it has a physical existence and is crucial to Software reliability, however, does not show the same characteristics similar as hardware.
I don't think its possible to make most of the changes to Hardware without physically touching.
