Lightweight concrete can be defined as a type of concrete which includes an expanding agent in it that increases the volume of the mixture while reducing the dead weight. It is lighter than the conventional concrete with a dry density of 300 kg/m3 up to 1840 kg/m3. The main specialties of lightweight concrete are its low density and low thermal conductivity. There are many types of lightweight concrete which can be produced either by using lightweight aggregate or by using an air entraining agent. In this project I have worked on each of the above mentioned types. Both of them are non-structural concrete.
Light weight concrete is used for raised flooring & walls like siporex / equivalent to less weight of the building.
Low density aggregates use to produce a light weight concrete
lightweight concrete is used mostly in terrusslabs water proofing work as we say that foaming concrete
Light wieght aggregate is usually use in designing concrete bridges.
The use of lightweight concrete mixtures usually in constructions that require light weights. The most common uses for concrete light weight is, concrete ceilings soundproofing and heat in the slab bridges, and in the light industrial concrete bricks and other uses. This is a light weight concrete industry by replacing some or all of the heavy agreggate by lightweight agreggate or by add chemicals that act on the composition of the bubbles in the concrete and increase its size.
Lightweight concretes can either be lightweight aggregate concrete, foamed concrete or autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC). Such lightweight concrete blocks are often used in house construction.
Lightweight aggregate concrete is commonly used for structural such as mortar and plaster wherein the weight is less than as the usual rock aggregate
is a light weight concrete with good thermal insulation
