You need to engage with your users, not any users, but those who actually need your website, that they use it everyday. Go through the User Experience Process, Lean Methodology, Do some reading and check some User Experience Tutorials on Lynda, two books that were good for me, "Don't make me think", by Steve Krug, and UX for Projects. User Experience, isn't about how creative and smashing your UI is, because people have different taste when it comes to taste, its how , user friendly and straight forward you make it to your users. and how you can use technology, such as Java script libraries to make it that way.
Take into account, that UX is not a1 man job, it takes a team, a UX Developer, UX Designer, A moderator and the User.
To get your user, create a persona profile for your idea, and invite those people to interact with your website design. Always Consider Accessibility and Color blindness guidelines, so that nobody feels left out of your User Experience and UI web design and idea,
Good luck
