The prime job of any QS is to Evaluate the Cost of work , provide guide line to the executing Engineers as per schedule of work planned and ensure implementation , keep todate data of demand and supply as per site requirements and manage it with the co ordination of procurement office with forecast of atleast fifteen days in advance. Keep the record of work executed and proceed for billing in time.
At the start of studying the tender the QS have great part in the pricing procedure as for example the R.F concrete measured by the cubic meter in middle east but most of the B.O.Qs don’t include the steel ration in ....so it is necessary to calculate the steel ratio for every element ( footing, columns, beams, ceiling....etc ) which has a great effect on the unit price cost .
During the progress of the project the Q.S provide the quantities done till a certain point and what is remaining and from that we can determine if there is a waste in materials .
So the Q.S is deeply involved in the cost control.
