There are two types of site civil engineer , first job is a supervisory one if he works with the consultant, in this case he needs to make sure that the document in hand is the correct designed and issued for construction , then he will supervise the construction contractor to make sure that work is being carried out as designed and in accordance to standards. The second type , is the execution part where he works with the construction contractor, in this case he has more responsibilities, where he has to adhere to the design document, quality of work, the schedule, safety of the people, costs and more over to satisfy the consultant at a personal level
Work activities vary depending on the type of employers and nature of the project but typically involve:
A site civil Engineer should ensure execution of work according to approved drawings, design and specification. He should also ensure to complete the work within the time limits allowed. He should also ensure the safety measures.
To watch and inspect the construction and assure that it is done in full accordance with the plans and specifications.
Review and approve Shop Drawings of equipment to be installed to assure the equipment meets or exceeds the specifications (often done with the Project Engineer).
Meet with the General Contractor to keep the project on time and on budget.
Review and approve (or reject) Change Orders (often done with the Project Engineer
Monitoring and follow-up all work progress as per work schedule.Ensure quality of work, material control and time management & minimize of wastage.Capable to anticipate problems and able to provide solution to minimize complexity.
