The5 main safety concerns for Motorist and workers while in a work zone are as follows:

1) Lack of pedestrian pathway isolated & barricaded from vehicular traffic.

2) Lack of monitoring and supervision to control and manage the vehicular traffic.

3) Lack of Consequence management process to deter Motorist from safety rules violations.

4) Lack of antecedents (Activators) to guide the motorist to follow set road safety rules.

5) Lack of Training to Motorist about Road safety rules.

All of the above are serious safety concerns at work site. If managed reasonably, we can eliminate or reduce Incidents at work place related to vehicles.

the main safety concerns inside work zones are for me:

A-Maintenance program :

the appropriate maintenance program is very necessary to prevent dangers during the work

B- safety before the work:

make sure that you can be in the safe side and monitor all the probable dangers that you can face during the work before to began the process.

C- safety during the work :

keep yourself alert and ready to face any kind of danger that it can be occur during the work with the minimum of injuries.

D-Appropriate trainings:

train all the work stuff, supervisors, workers, managers...can prevent you from a lot of dangers, because all will be aware of the real danger and keep them-self alerted of it.

E- give the right information's about the danger in the work zone:

stick on the work boards the awareness needed from all to keep safe, like wearing PPE's, look before to process, use hands rails, protect your eyes, your ears,...

When dealing with motorist in a work zone/ workplace cogent topics/ HSE concerns that needs to be addressed are:1)Ascertaining competency: drivers of the vehicles, the maintenance team.. need to be certified competent ( Knowledge, ability, training and experience). All persons( workers , contractors, subcontractors & visitors) should receive a comprehensive induction before being allowed to move around the work zone/place ;2)Poor/no/inadequate maintenance program for the vehicles: Safety is never in conflict with production/ task to be done. All vehicles needed to called in for maintenance( periodic, routine or at last curative ) as stated in the maintenance program( this program needs to be in conpliance with the manufacturers maintenance directions/instructions and also in conformance with international standards. Pre- vehicle use Daily and periodic inspection should be done3)Lack of safety embedded features( mostly addressed at the vehicle design stage): When using vehicle in a work zone/ workplace , these are some of the expected safety features and considerations to be taken -The vehicle should have a reverse Alarm, -the vehicle windows should never be tinted, including the Rare glass, -the Vehicle should have a functional horn -all vehicles should have functional seat belts( an alert system when it's not being used) -no loose car mats - functional adjustable seats - functional head lamps and break lights4)Poor/no / inadequate communication, it's tools or personnel: Use of clear and concise communication tools such as signages, Zebra crossings where applicable , use of traffic safety officers. Speed limit should be defined in company rules and regulation but also displayed in form of safety signs.5)Work zone adjoining with walkway: There should be a dedicated cordoned- off pedestrian path to allow safe and free movement of people around the work zone/place but away from the line of fire/ harm. Though there are still more concerns that could eminate.

1. Driving

Passing motorists can be a major safety concern, but so can the vehicles driven by workers. To boost overall work zone safety, businesses should ensure all vehicles have appropriate rollover protection and seat belts, as directed by equipment specifications. Whether they’re driving to and from the work site or working closely with dangerous machinery attached to vehicles, employees need to be protected from the equipment they interact with throughout the course of their projects.

2. Flagging

Flaggers play vital roles in controlling traffic approaching work zones, which allows for other workers to focus more completely on the task at hand. Flaggers also face additional risks as the first line of defense between vehicles and employees. For that reason, it’s essential flaggers are as visible as possible. Fluorescent and retroreflective clothing provide a high degree of visibility, regardless of the conditions.

3. Lighting

Night and low-light conditions can contribute to safety concerns in work zones, but are easy to solve using proper lighting. Lighting can come in the form of five foot-candles or even flares and chemical lighting when electrical lighting can’t clearly illuminate workers.

4. Training

Keeping flaggers aware and informed of proper signaling methods helps them work as safely as possible. Don’t overlook this critical – albeit less tangible – element of work zone safety.

5. Speed limits

It's very important that speed limits 40-60) km/hr to be well known and reminded at every moment
