Any company of some size is confronted with a multitude of projects within more or less related business departments.
While most of the subject specialists will stay within their proper project, a sudden need exists to manage and coordinate related or parallel projects.
Introducing a centralized project management team, coordinating all projects within the business is one of the common solutions.
So, the main 'reasons" to introduce centralized project management are: - coordination and alignment - management competence in PM team Pleas note, without the business buy-in this won't work, so in every project team a representation of the business key processes should take part.

Organizational structure to assure the inter-department communication and collaboration is the main pillar of Multi Project managment. Organization should assure and maintain one department or employee committment to report to different projects at the same time, alike working for international corporation, employee should report to regional and local director at he same time for different business inputs, his working attitude and the leadership within the company should assure that. And this is to my point of view the key to succeed in multi projects managment.
