for acute low back pain more manual therapy is harmful it will cause more injury .First of all give rest to the patient , icing have the goodd results as well ultrasound on interrupted mode , tens for pain management and myofascial release of back muscles and guide the patient about postures which can aggravate back pain
I prefer always massage all body because all the parts of the body are connected by energy, and the cause can be in another part of the body, buts hould focus on the lumbar, sacral part and the legs.
