1st way and the easy way; is complete x2 sequential cells and select the two cells, and click on drag the corner handle.

2nd way is use formula to calculate the next number in the sequence.  e.g. weekending Sunday date; then capture the first Sunday date, and then in next roll or column it is + first cell +7 = answer; this can then be copied down or across.

3rd double click the fill-handle to fill large range to end of data range automatically will pick up the end of the table.  Sequence can be defined by capturing the first1 or2 cells.

4th AutoFill with both text and number combinations, like1st,2nd,3rd, and Quarter1, Quarter2 ....

5th may create a custom list; file, options, advances, select custom lists.

6th the Fill-Handle give a drop down box, and can fill data by:

  • copy cells
  • fill series
  • fill formatting only
  • fill without formatting
  • Flash fill

When you fill in data based on adjacent cells by dragging the fill handle in Microsoft Excel, the Auto Fill Options button is displayed just below and to the right of your filled selection. When you click the Auto Fill Options button, a list of options appears that allows you to choose to fill the cells with text or data, and whether or not to include the format of the initial selection or to copy only the format.

The Auto Fill Options button is also displayed after you select the AutoFill option in the Series dialog box. To show the Series dialog box, use one of the following procedures, as appropriate for the version of Excel that you are running:

  • In Microsoft Office Excel2007 and Excel2010, click the Home tab, and then click Fill in the Editing group.
  • In Microsoft Office Excel2003 and in earlier versions of Excel, point to Fill on the Edit menu, and then click Series.

The options that are available depend on the type of content in the cells (text or numbers) and on the format of the data. You can use the Series command to find the AutoFill option and other options.
