There is a difference between Client and Customer.- Customer: a person who purchases goods or services from another; buyer; patron.- Client: a person or group that uses the professional advice or services of a lawyer, accountant, advertising agency, architect, etc. They have a different strategies and different values but each one is based on the interest of Client. But if the Selling/Purchasing in Client Service gives10-15% of positive result, the Selling/Purchasing in Customer Service gives more than50% (good quality service with a right Marketing strategy)... Do you know why? Face to Face and Eye to Eye...

Strictly defined, a customer is someone who buys goods or services from a store or business. The word "client" can also mean "customer," according to the American Heritage Dictionary, but it has a separate definition as someone who receives professional services. In business, the two terms are often applied differently based on the types of relationships built. Customers are generally people who come to you mainly to buy products or services you supply. Clients buy your advice and solutions personalized to their particular needs.

If I am hired by a company to execute a project for one of its department, can I say the company is my client and department is my customer?

Customer is a business prospect that we interact to close a deal.

Client is a business relation, who maintains a regular business engagement.

Hence, every client was once a customer but every customer does not become a client.

A customer is someone who buys goods or services mostly from a store or business whereas the word "client" can also comes under the meaning of a "customer," but it has a separate scope as someone who receives specific services that can be professional like a lawyer firm who provide consultancy and advice on documentation / legal issues to mostly business firms. Client can be a company who is in need of advice on IT infrastructure or solution.

In the present business market, the two terms are often applied differently based on the types of relationships built. Customers are generally people who come, mainly to buy products or services from a retailer or supplier.

Clients buy your advice and solutions personalized to their particular needs for specific topic or for a specific time frame. On the other hand, customers are mostly brand loyal and buy products on routine basis as per their demand and spending pattern.

Mostly government/public sector companies have to follow certain rules while gathering the services/advice from market like launching the bidding process for acquiring services from a lowest competitive bidder.

While, Customer is mostly an individual who is in complete freedom to buy whatever they need without following specific rules.

we can differentiate customer and client in many ways but it is mostly depends on the premises a person have in its surrounding.

In nut shell,

Customer is a personality who just need a commodity and not the advise.

While Client is a personality who initially needs your advise according to his or her requirements and needs and after that he becomes the customer either yours or any one else on the basis of that specific advise or idea given by you.
