To provide excellent guest service a the Front Desk you would need well trained staff:- must know the area and can make recommendations- must speak the local language and must have an excellent command of the english language, written and verbalevery other language would be an advantagegood in small talk (very important!!!!)- must have a great attitude towards guest service, this includes how to handle guest complaints and how to recover, going the extra mile - doing more than expected, if you don't have the attitude, don't work in hospitality!- good memory, must know regular guests by name and their preferences to ensure guest loyalty- and most important of all, must have a wonderful smile! Again, if you don't have asmile, you are in the wrong industry!!!

I design front desks... and apparently poorly. Ha. I actually don't design them... but I help designers add operational elements. Things have changed immensely in the last couple years, and often, by the time you design the desk to build and open the hotel, the technology has changed. In just one year, a number of aspects have changed. It's important to think of whether it's a standing or sitting desk, and how many stations. I will speak to a small hotel, or one single station at a larger desk.
