The three attributes of any good teacher at a college/university should include (i) a commitment to collective good of humanity, (ii) expertise, (iii) a respect for diversity of opinion.  A commitment to the collective good of humanity is important given the general desire for individual progress amongst most people.  It is important at a college or university for people to put the institution before themselves.  In this way they will bring positive energy into the organisation.  Expertise is a very essential ingredient for success. Subject and disciplinary knowledge cannot be sacrificed.  Finally, respect for diversity of opinion will ensure there is a true and real academic agenda.  We live in a diverse world and that diversity should be a basis for teaching and learning.  Ultimately you want academic leaders who will want to create the conditions for successful graduates.  The student in this case must benefit from a truly world class organisation.

I would say -without following any order of importance : * Intellectual and human honesty (because stakes are high for the students, which can lead to biased behaviours),* Communicative spirit (university classes being sometimes overpopulated, and often superimposed to an active work/research life, which makes the course content more difficult to go through, as opposed to a closed structure like a school),* Academic expertise, because after all, university/college is the  very spearhead of excellency in one's subject !
