Assuming that this question is in relation to a career change and with no prior maintenance experience then I would recommend that you seek employment where your present skills can be utilised, perhaps within facilities management where building structral maintenence may be required.
From my experience most maintenance engineers are mostly multi skilled with a sound knowledge of mechanical and electrical fundementals which has been obtained through education and years of on the job training.

All depend on what is the object of the maintenance.
If it a industrial plant maybe it wold be hard for an architect with out a strong background in that field,
but if we are talking about a museum or also a shop - why not - I thing that an architectural background would be very helpful for to do a good maintenance.
In my opinion, most of the companies by maintenance engineers maintenance team will be composed of Mechanical Engineer and Electrical Engineer, Civil Engineer and Architect also all this is included under the name of Maintenance Engineer
