No it is not.
You have to market something first in order to sell it. This is despite the type of sales channel is used e.g. tele-sales, direct sales, online sales etc. Every one who is selling something is marketing it first. Even the fruit seller on the corner of the street is displays the fruits in a decorative and appealing manner. Sometimes he may even have the price displayed. That is all marketing.
Marketing is the tool that attracts people to buy i.e. complete a sale.
Thanks to everybody, every honorable specialist who commented on my question. And given their valued explanation,logic and ethics on this question.

Not true, in my opinion.
Rather sales is the direct result of market efforts thus sales is preceded by marketing. On the other hand, marketing involves many strategic moves which do not directly result in sales.
