Industrial Coatings are Coating Systems applied within the industry of Oil and gas refineries on and of shore projects, it is self explanatory by name

Protective coating a#can be defined as many things. It can be the actual coating applied to protect a material against corrosion or it can be defined as a system applied.

It can be seen as the very same thing also. Corrosion Protection

the protective coating protects the material from the aggressive environment but industrial coating are made to give the same protection in different service environment like high temperature and buried or criogenic conditions and fro offshore and marine type of environment

Industrial coatings are products engineered specifically for their protective and functional properties. Most industrial coatingsare used for corrosion control of concrete and steel, but they lie under a complex market umbrella and work in numerous areas.

Definition of protective coating. :a type of paint, varnish, or lacquer used more to protect than decorate.

simply protective coatings are coverings to protect substrate like coatings to hinder corrosion while industrial coating is broader category where purpose of coating could as well be functional or decorative. well it could be explained better if purpose of coating is explained a bit more

Industrial coatings are normally manufacture to full fill the customers requirements or needs in-terms of colors, textures and the durability. Normally applied at the houses or buildings and easily buy in hardware or markets can be found in acrylic or water base. The price is cheaper than the protective coating.

While the protective coatings are normally manufactured or formulated to protect the structures especially for carbon steel (from corrosion), concretes (from concrete deterioration and protection of rebars) or woods (deterioration).  Normally, there are three main ingredients in the protective coatings ie resin, solvent and additive.  For the protective coatings, normally they must have at least two types of coating system ie undercoats (eg. for the corrosion protection) and the top coats (eg. to prevent from discoloration or acidic environment).  The prices are little bit high compare to the industrial coatings. Generic types such as epoxy, alkyd or urethane. The thickness and the types of each coating system to be used are subject to (such as) the types of the structures, temperatures, environment to be exposed, locations and applications.
