Bearing capacity of a soil can be calculated from a number of field geotechnical test, after obtaining the geotechnical parameters of the soil from the field and laboratory test, a soil model is proposed and developed which present characteristic geotechnical parameters of each strata and depth, the parameters include mainly the soil unit weight, friction angle for non-cohesive soils, undrainded shear strength Cu for cohesive soil, c-phi for a combination of soil consistency and other relevant parameters, these are subsequently applied to bearing capacity calculation of choice, such as the tehzergi or the modified meyerhof equations. the bearing capacity can be calculated for ultimate limit state ULS or the serviceability limit state SLS for different foundation depth and sizes. The same steps may be followed for deep foundations too with some modifications.
