I know about SAP and Quickbooks..
Our co moved from QB to SAP.
SAP is something which requires a profound attention of senior management of the co.
and its not mere about telling others that we work on SAP.
However QB is much more easier to use and also good for SMEs who dont have huge budgets.
Regarding beginners Quickbooks is much more easy to understand in comparison to SAP.

Basics are the same.
So first of all one should have a good grip on accounting entries and he/she knows the flow of that entry i.e.
if i pass an entry of sale than what heads it will hit and what will be there impact on B/S and income statements.
You should start with these basics.
Tally and peachtree are for the small and medium companies and there is another one you have not mentioned named ACCPAC.
ACCPAC has a smaller version called simply accounting ACCPAC which is a very good software to start with.
Any way its depend on you how much you want to use software as many companies having such software don't use some modules like HR module so its up to individual and company but if you dont know the basic flow then you will be questioned and asked what will this entry make impact on accounts rest is just experiments.

Hi,

In addition to the above comments, i would also like to point your attention to some changes that are happening in the ERP world today.

Traditionally - QB, ACCPAC, Tally etc were the preferred software products if you did not have a big budget and also if you had a SME organization.

Traditionally - Oracle and SAP were the choices if you were a large organization. Incidentally, in middle east and Africa, it was more Oracle due to their wider and longer presence and a huge network of partners (which helped keep costs low).

But today - the choice is more about On Premise versus Cloud options. Oracle, just as an example, has now released a Cloud ERP which suits smaller budgets, SME customers and also ensures very easy implementation and adoption. The UI has become much easy, the help is really cool and the access via tablets, smart phones and simplified and intuitive UI is helping many customers adopt to Oracle Cloud ERP.

In essence, do not discount the large ERP, but look for cloud offerings. This gives you the best of both worlds (lower costs, easier implementation, better UI) and at the same time, the trust and respect from a world class product, continued support, many partner choices etc.

I would suggest for Tally as it has been ment to easily understand the basic accounting principle and it is very user friendly.

Personally  My first Automated software was Peachtree and it gave me a good foundation and view that how an automated system works, what are modules and chart of accounts.

On the basis of it I used Tally ERP9.0 for more than one year overseas and it was a lovely experience too.

The answer to this question depends on the type of begginer we have.

If the begginer is finance affiliate and is going for the options of learning then I will suggest Peachtree.

Later on he/she can swith the career to Tally Oracle SAP of others on the basis of Learning and understanding.
