Reading a wide variety of sources and referencing them when citing the work is critical. I personally read about a topic to gather as much information as possible. This builds a structure for me to begin my writing. I will summarise individual articles (in my own words). For example, what is the aim of the author's work, what point were they trying communicate, and if they did this successfully. I then begin my writing and incorporate the summary, while referencing the author's surname and year their writing was published. So in effect, I won't be referring back to their writing but my own summary. This prevents any plaigerism, or collusion of any sort. The bottom line, as also stated by Ms Vorster is give credit, so reference the author and write your own words to summarise the author's work.

Personally, I think by using citation and quote from your source (and add your own idea).

Paraphrase the idea of the source text and then cite the work. This way you avoid plagiarism and you give the writer their credit.
