I believe that To be a good marketing person, you need to have great knowledge about sales. sales is a foundation and a marketing person cannot stand strong without a strong foundation.
To sell something or product , actually we need to know or learn about marketing . It very important for seller because without marketing anybody dont know our product .
First of all we must understand what is marketing and what is sales…before telling about the relevance and scope….let me give a brief outline on both

In many case the products are been directly demanded by the customer…in such a case there is no need for sales person.
Eg: FMCG product displayed in a supermarket
In this case the sales person might can influence the purchase decision

in my opinion i would say marketing first reason being in order for you to make sales, you have to lay agood marketing strategy so as to identify who are your consumers
