CPA certified public accountant - My opinion 'yes' it is must to know accounting  before joining this course. Generally candidates having11 and12 from commerce or A level with accounting and finance join this course. or  first learn the basic accounting from book keeping till financial statements thoroughly and and than join. other wise it will be very difficult and complicated too.GOOD LUCK

Generally speaking, one of the requirements for you to sit for the exam is to have a degree in accounting.  The application requirements are quite strict for the CPA, and they're expected to get more difficult as time goes by.

However; if you're asking whether you could pass the exams without having some sort of an accounting background, then in that case I believe as long as you know the basics (ex. debit/credit), and get a good review course that suits your learning style; then you should be fine.  One important thing to note is that the CPA exam does not require you to be a master in accounting; on the contrary it's all about the fundamentals of accounting.

The CPA exam is just like every other exam, you need to know the strategy for how tackle it, except the material is lengthy and quite boring, and the process requires long hours of practice.  I would say the key to passing the CPA exam is discipline and self-control, both while you're studying, and during the exam.
