Dear Dina ,
about poetry it is true both : first one needs to read the Masters of this art ( Dante , Shakespeare, Milton , Pope , Byron , Shelley ......just to name a few I like most ) and then one needs to be driven by his/her own fantasy and ability to invent new poetry .
I would suggest as great readings .......Percy Bishe Shelley poems , like " Ode to the west wind " and " the Cloud " , Alexander's pope's " The rape of the Lock " , and Dante's " Paradise canto XXIII " .
Wish all the best

Poetry is a blend of spontaneity and reason. In simpler terms,
painting is silent poetry, and poetry is painting that speaks.
Poets are born; versification can be taught. But, sure, even a born poet has to learn the prevalent trends, techniques and styles of the time.
I think that the poetry is80% spontaneous and20% taught , because you should learn how to write the poetry , and there is rules of how to write it
Dear Ms. Dina, it seems you are asking so many questions eventhough you are qualified person ! Any comment/s ?
In my opinion it is bith spontaneous and can be taught. it is spontaneous when you do really have the gift of it and can be taught if you have the passion of learning more.
