Can I ask customers personal questions?

Should I become friends with the clients or is it preferred to be as business partners (win-win, formal way)?

ASKING CUSTOMERS PERSONAL QUESTION IN A BUSINESS CERTAIN IS NOT RIGHT BUT YOU CAN ASK SUCH QUESTION OUTSIDE BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT AND TIME.

we should be a gentle with customers and be swift and formal person

I think it’s unprofessional to ask customers personal questions. Business is Business. You must never get too familiar with your customers.

The only relation you have with your customer is a business relationship. Customer is using your services and you are giving him or her the value in return of the price he pays. So asking personal questions to customers is pretty unprofessional when you are at work.

You can ask question but there is also a certain limitation it is the best way to establish a rapport to your customer. We need inform for our customer but not on a certain limit. They have personal privacy. It is also an ice breaker when you need to be more comfortable.

Simple and normal questions would be acceptable to break the ice toward a long term relation.  Thank You. Regards!

its good to be afriend for the customer but it should be in formal way ,, we can ask personal questions but not to all customers only those who are close enugh... but i think its better to be formal with all the customers cuz its business in the end and maybe we say somthing wrong or bad and we lose them forever if they are senstive
