IELTS and TOEFL both are designed to test the ability of English language proficiency of the students who wish to take admission in the universities of English speaking countries. In spite of common objective they are different in several ways. Main things to be mentioned here are:

1. IELTS is short and TOEFL is long.

2. IELTS gives an opportunity to sit face to face with examiner to take speaking test but in TOEFL you are asked to answer6 questions which are recorded and sent to the examiner for evaluation.

3. IELTS is more comprehensive in variety of its parts but TOEFL mostly contains MCQs.

4. IELTS is managed by UK, Australia and NewZealand  whereas TOEFL is planned by US.
