The job of an Accounts Receivable Specialist is a combination of art and the knowledge of basic accounting principles. In my opinion, the top3 skills should be:
a) Basic knowledge of Accounting - This forms the basis without which the life of any Accounts Receivable Specialist would be difficult.
b) Empathy - The A/R Specialist should be able to think from the customers' shoes, then only he/she will be able to understand the payment patterns of the customers, negotiate and corner if required as well.
c) Listening and Probing - It is very important for a A/R Specialist's job as listening to the customer patiently will give an opportunity to know what kind of a person the representative of the customer is as well as their company's requirements when it comes to various factors like submission of invoices & support docs, invoice processing period, any other key executives involved in the process and what more can be done to speed up the processing of payments from their end. Such valuable information can be collected by carefully listening and then asking questions.

- Honesty and Integrity.
-Listening skills : enable you to find out what is the most important things for your prospect. By identifying their cares, needs and attributes, you can match them with the advantages and benefits of your product.
-Work ethic: No matter what your personal skills, if you are not willing to work harder and better than others, you will ultimately not succeed.
