Very interesting question.
in my very humble opinion all three kinds have their own aptitude and adaptability to different situations.
A well trained candidate, by this i am assuming a well experienced candidate this type of candidate can implement systems and processes to which he/she has exposure but may not do very well in a think out of the box situation.
A well educated person, assuming a highly educated candidate may not have very high exposure to different systems and processes and would implement processes from his knowledge with little bearing to the surrounding business environment and underlying organisational culture prevalent he has the knowledge to implement but not necessarily the know how.
I self taught person is a candidate with medium education and is self taught meaning the candidate has gained through a mix of knowledge and experience, this kind of person carries the ability to think out of the box adapt to different situations as the need arises.
By saying the above I do not advocate a certain personality over the other, all have their own applications and attitudes it depends on the situation and the nature and demands of the work at hand.
After all we shouldn't forget Winston Churchill was a War time leader during the second world war in England but less impressive during peace time.
priority of selection is Educated, Well Trained
SELF -TAUGHT, SELF MOTIVATED,
