2- Containement -Anything you can temporarly do to protect the customer and contain the problem

3- Define the root cause/causes of the problem

4- Define/implement solutions

5- Control & check to ensure solution is working & prevent reoccurence of the problem

6- Communicate results & decisions to those impacted by the problem and or change

Hi, I am master trainer for8D problem solving methodology. I would reccomend to use an8D approach.

1. Form a team

2. Analyze and confirm the problem

3. Set containment action and do risk assessment

4. Rootcouse finding (some tools can help to dig down and narrowing down potential causes)

5. Select Corrective action(s)

6. Implement and monitor Corrective action(s)

7. Set and implement Preventive action(s)

8. .... last, don't forget, congratulate your team :-)

If you're asking about old and tested, then the creative problem solving technique is one of them, with60 years of backup research to support.
some of the newest methods are Design Thinking and if your problem is engineering related check out TRIZ.
if you're stuck look at a different field / discipline and see how they solve similar problem and apply it there.
They idea is to look at the same problem from so many perspectives and include your company's eco-system to find a solution to fits all to a certain extent.
many other methods available but again it depends on the problem itself, if you own its solution or you're simply trying to find ways to solve it in a different way.

Fist study the symptoms to work on solving the current challenge or obstacle , Then go deep to find the reasons & work on it to prevent any negative external affects & third of all go even deeper & this is very important  to work on solving the roots of the Problems to make sure this obstacle will not exist again .
