The petrol engine .have sparkplug to  burn the air and fuel mixture.,The  Diesel engine burn the fuel by its compresion,

petrol engine also called spurk  ignation engine and the diesel engine called the  compresion ignation engine . .

In a gasoline engine, fuel is mixed with air, compressed by pistons and ignited by sparks from spark plugs. In a diesel engine, however, the air is compressed first, and then the fuel is injected. Because air heats up when it's compressed, the fuel ignites.

The difference between petrol engine and diesel engine ar as follow:

petrol engine uses a spark plug for the ignition while diesel engine uses high pressure and temperature to ignite the fuel.

secondly, in petrol engine flame propagation is entirely different from that of diesel engine.

efficiency of diesel engine is high as compared to petrol engine.
