Usually Airlines operate under uncertain conditions. Weather, congestion, and mechanical breakdowns are examples of why flights may not operate as planned. The flight operational performance of airlines is becoming worse. In my view we can improve more by using up to date techniques such as updating planning system to planned the flight through non-fixed (flexible) air traffic routes that are optimised for the prevailing weather, single engine taxing and using (GPU) ground power unit to reduce fuel consumption and regular training of the flight dispatchers / flight operation officers to ensure error management.
