Autocad, as opposed to SolidWorks, allows for the use of multiple core processors. In general though, the main contributor to having a speedy system is the graphics engine installed in the system.
In my workstation in my home office I run four quad core processors,64 gigs of memory and a blazing fast graphics board (FX-4000) with4 gigs of dedicated memory on board. Two23" monitors complete the setup. I run SolidWorks and Autocad simultaneously all the time with some FEA work running in the background.
Its all about what you can afford...
