Understand the contract and find the areas where client can plug in more scope and be prepared.
Identify deliverables correctly, and the time frame.
Avoid the specifications being vague, clarify during Tender stage itself.

Change management is crucial
Stick to keep recording of all correspondence properly
Follow the programme, forecast periodically
Make sure Site managers and supervisors are made aware of the scope and methodology to follow, share information of construction methodology, there are both costlier and cheaper methods available, share knowledge.
