The first solution came to my mind is Google Web Analytics, and it has much more useful records as will.

Hi,

I am personally using stat counter (statcounter.com) it is a great tool with daily, weakly and monthly report, showing you, not only how many visitors you have, but also provide with geographical tracking , your visitors pages of interest, repeated visits, time of visits and many other features.

if you have funds go for Omniture or Adobe Analytics.

There are many plugins available. For wordpress website i know one is jetpack, though there are many other plugins available on wordpress as well. You can find for your website on google. By simply searching on google by writing your content management system name i.e wordpress or joomla or any other followed by "visitor analytics plugin".

Three methods:

1-      Google Web Analytics

2-      Ready-made counter like { free-counter-plus.com / freelogs.com}

3-      Create by yourself if you have server-side programming language knowledge such as PHP.

If you want method number 3:

-          Create text file on the server and initialize counter by typing in value {0}.

-          Call it every time visitor log in and Increase the number in it by one {e.g. I=I+1}.

Deponding on code language it may like this for PHP:

-          Create file "counter.txt"

-          Create "counter.php" containing code for count:

<?PHP

$CFile = fOpen("counter.txt"",r+) or die("Unable to open file!");

$CInt = fRead($CFile);

fWrite($CFile,$CInt+1);

fClose($CFile);

?>

-          Call PHP file by <?PHP Include "counter.php" ?>

 Hope i can help...
