A good team player allows other to speak.
A good team player is a team worker / trustworthy and he / she never shout to employee.
A good team player is a bit like an elephant - quite hard to describe, but you know it when you see it.
A top class team player
- is cooperative and helpful
- is reliable
- contributes to discussions and decisions
- volunteers for slightly more than his share of unpleasant tasks
- gets on with the job
- uses his/her initiative
- supports other team members, and sometimes even the leader
- does what they have been asked to do, on time, on budget, every time
- brings problems to the leader in a timely manner, with a suggested solution if possible
A team player does not
- whine or whinge
- try to get out of things he/she is suppose to do
- put their feelings or ego before the team
- turn up late, drunk
- argue
- do the minimum
- keep secrets
- spread rumours, talk behind people's backs,play politics etc.
If you're trying to be a good team player, and face a dilemma, ask yourself what X would do. X is a suitable person you admire. It could be somebody you know, or a character from history or fiction.
