at first we must customized if the motor connect dirictly to the power source DC OR AC or to motor drivr inverter or soft sarter or motor protiction circuit breaker or rellay also how much the voltage of the motor also if it step motor with servo drive or with encoder  or normal flow stream delta or star conection or prushless for DC motors  and these choices make the answer very big and really need alot to explaining but we can focuse on some points preafly for Ac motor one phase or thre pahse  if it220v or380v and connect to the power through motor protiction or rellay we mutst check at the first the power if it's o.k or not by milimeter and the we mutst check the rellay or motor proticiton if take order measure A1and A2 current wiche come from PLC or Switch if it ok  the we must check the rellay or motor protiction the inside  contacts are ok or burn then we can measure the current to the motor by current climps if it high more than motor current whitche notes on motor information plate that is mean the problem inside the motor mechanical or electrical for the Ac motor connect to the invertes220v or380v we must dealing with inverters parameters through the software of the inverters or by keybad and we can observing the motor through the soft ware of the inverters if current high or low or the voltage is low or the frequincy low or high or the temprature is high many things also the same for soft drive for DC motors generaly come only one phase and3 phases for DC brusless motor which used in electrical cars  and the test more easier because it dirctly connect to current so we can measure voltge by milimeterif it low or high  or the current by dc climp for motor cable and  and if high that mean also there is problem inside the motor mechanical or electrical and for bldc motor controled by inverter we can checked the motor through the software of the inverter
